Few things
are more important to installation than correct measuring.
It is critical to spend as much time and resources as necessary
to obtain these measurements accurately and to be able to
communicate them to Sunview and to your installers (pictures
along with sketches are highly recommended).
To assist in this, Sunview will have worksheets
of typical solariums available in which you can mark important
dimensions and in which areas to check are identified. It
is a good idea to use these forms wherever possible to ensure
accurate collecting and communicating of these measurements.
It is also critical to ensure that all measuring
tools and equipment are calibrated regularly. This will obviously
limit the possibility of error due to faulty equipment. It
is not unusual for a retractable tape measure to be out by
as much as ¼ inch (6mm) due to a bent or broken tip!

The
measurements that Sunview requires for most projects are:
- Length: The
distance from one gable end to the other. For projects placed
on a pony wall, we want the distance from plywood (or shiplap
sheeting) to plywood. For projects without a pony wall,
we want the distance from the outside of the 2 x 6 ledge
that the solarium mounts onto.
- Rafter Projection: The
horizontal distance from the ridge connection to the plywood
sheeting on the pony wall. This is the horizontal length
of the rafters.
- Height at Ridge: The
distance from the top of the pony wall, or 2 x 6 ledge,
to the top of the ridge ledge.
- Gable End Projection: The
distance from the exterior wall of the house to the sheeting
plywood on the front pony wall. This distance must be checked
for both gable ends.
- Pony Wall Height: The
distance from the floor to the top of the pony wall. This
distance must be checked at both sides of all door openings.
- Square of Plan: Check
to ensure that the diagonal distance from corner to corner
of the pony wall, or 2 x 6 ledge, is equal, plus or minus
¼ inch (6mm).
- Ridge:
If the solarium ridge is to be connected to the building
fascia board, check the size of the fascia and structural
soundness. Note: Sunview will allow for mounting a 2 x 4
ledge between the solarium frame and the building. This
ledge is generally covered in flashing and painted to match
– this is done on site and supplied by the installer.
- Gable Ends: 2
x 8 framing against the house wall is required to provide
a weather-tight seal. This framing is generally covered
in flashing and painted to match – and is also done
on site and supplied by the installer.

To
be able to deliver exactly what you and your customers want
requires that the order be very specific and exact. One of
the basic tenets of Quality Assurance is to deliver products
that meet the customers expectations. Obviously we must know
what those expectations are in order to meet them.
The general procedures that will be followed
to ensure this are:
- Make a choice between
our products.
• Browse through our web
site, read our brochures, visit us at a homeshow
or drop by our head
office locations. • Choose one of our
products
that suits you best, fits within your budget (we can
organize financing for you if needed), and fulfills
your needs. • Be sure to read through our
Frequently
Asked Questions (FAQ) section. • Feel
free to contact
us. |
- When you are ready to place an order, you
will send us a sketch of the proposed solarium along with
a few pictures of the proposed area, including all information
that you have at the time. You can send the sketch via mail
or scan the sketch and e-mail
it to us. Our contact information is listed here.
- On receipt of the sketch, A preliminary
estimate can be produced. If it is all agreeable and you
would like to proceed, a contract will be created. Upon
receipt of the contract and deposit - Sunview will produce
a set of CAD working drawings that will show all the extrusions,
acrylic and sizes, doors, windows, connections details etc.
These drawings must be inspected, approved or amended, signed
by you and returned to Sunview Solariums.
- On receipt of the signed drawings, Sunview
will forward the project to purchasing and to production.
- Generally it will take approximately 2-3
weeks to produce the framework and properly package the
room.
- It will take approximately 5 working days
for the room to reach you by common courier.
- If you choose to have
us install your project our friendly professional installers
typically take three to four days to completely install
your product (some larger projects can take multiple weeks,
even months to complete).
